Регулярный. Слово regular появилось в английском языке в XIV в. от латинского regula (правило). Сначала его употребляли только применительно к тем, кто должен был подчиняться монастырским законам или уставу какого-либо монашеского ордена. К XVII в. оно приобрело значение «симметричный» (цветок, например) или «упорядоченный» (например, образ жизни). Значение «появляющийся через точные интервалы времени» добавилось в XVIII в.: They kept up a regular monthly correspondence for several years. — Они переписывались регулярно раз в месяц на протяжении нескольких лет. В настоящее время, если вам врач задаёт вопрос Are you regular?, то он имеет в виду регулярность опорожнения вашего кишечника.
